Merchant Patrolman / Security Guard Certification

A minimum of five participants are needed to hold a class.

Late registrations will be charged an additional $25.00

Participants must pass a 75 Question Closed Book Exam with a 70% or better. 

A 2nd Exam may be requested for $5.00.  This exam will be a 100 Question Open Book Exam, and you must pass the exam with 100%. 

Failure of the 2nd Exam will require paying for and successfully passing an additional Classroom Study Merchant Patrolman/Security Guard Class if certification is still sought.

Certification Expiration: N/A

Upon completion of this class, you will receive a Certificate of Completion.  The City of Pueblo requires a Security Guard Certificate to apply for a Merchant patrolman/Security Guard License.  Merchant Patrolmen License is another expense Victory Training, LLC, does not issue.

  1. What is a Security Guard – It provides an understanding of what a Security Guard is and their responsibilities as a civilian, detaining subjects or making arrests.
  2. Report Writing – Provides an understanding of properly writing a descriptive and factual report. Use of Force Considerations / Civil Liabilities US Title 42 1982 – Provides an understanding of Use of Force Consideration as well as US Title 42 1982 Constitution Amendments IV, V, VI, and Case Laws including Jacobs vs. Dujmovic, Hudson vs McMillan, and Graham vs Conner.
  3. De-Escalation of Force –Provides an understanding of how to communicate with others effectively and precipitating factors that cause others to escalate their behaviors and techniques to de-escalate the contact.
  4. Sudden Custody Death Syndrome – Provides an understanding of how subjects are escalated to exhaustion, how various restraint methods increase the potential of death, and how to restrain and position an arrested subject properly.
  5. Situational Awareness – Provides an understanding of what Situational Awareness is and the importance of being aware of what is around you.
  6. Terry Searches – Provides an understanding of the purpose of a Terry Search (Searching only for weapons that can hurt you).
  7. Balance and Movement – Provides an understanding of how to move while maintaining balance for quick checks and re-directs tactically.
  8. Test over the above items – Test over the above items provides supported documentation showing discussion of various topics and understanding of the discussed topics, which may assist an agency in a lawsuit.

In-Class Training = Course presentation and practical test will be conducted in person.

Course Length is approximately 10 to 11 Hours.  Please bring your lunch to ensure the class ends around 6 pm.

DISCLAIMER:The participant must ensure that this program meets the requirements outlined by any City, Town, Municipality, or Agency.  Completion of this program is not a guarantee that you will be able to qualify for a Merchant Patrolman/Security Guard License.  Additional fees may be required by any City, Town, Municipality, or Agency to purchase your Merchant Patrolman/Security Guard License.

Pricing is on an individual basis and is subject to change. Call for group rates. Course fees include the cost of the course, course book, and course certification cards. Taxes are extra. Additional fees may include shipping and room rental. Courses outside of Pueblo may include a mileage and per diem fee.  Mileage is based upon the IRS recommended rate of .55 cents per mile round trip. All fees will be split between all course participants. All book and supply fees are non-refundable and must be paid during registration. Class registration fees and all applicable taxes may be paid with the book and supply fees, or you may pay the remaining fees at the start of the class. Cash and Credit Cards are accepted.
